What is Mānuka Honey?

Mānuka honey is a monofloral honey produced by honeybees in New Zealand from the nectar of the native Mānuka tree, Leptospermum. These bees collect the compound DHA from the flowers along with its nectar. This compound DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) heats up to a perfect 37C in the bodies of the bees which converts to the medicinal compound MGO (Methylglyoxal) before being deposited in the hive.

How is this different to other honeys?

Mānuka honey has been throughly studied to have many properties which have been linked with a range of unique wellbeing benefits. There are three key compounds in Mānuka Honey - MGO, DHA, and Leptosperin, with MGO being the most valued compound. The higher the MGO number, the more is contained in the honey product.

What is the difference between MGO and UMF?

UMF is a way to measure the whole suite of compounds in Mānuka Honey but only if the final product has been processed and packaged in New Zealand. Although our Mānuka Honey is certified New Zealand Mānuka Honey, we are unable to process products with hemp extract CBD in New Zealand so cannot make the UMF claim, but can make the MGO claim. What is Hemp Extract CBD?

CBD or cannabidiol is one of the two active ingredients from the genius cannabis sativa. Our CBD is extracted from hemp plants and generally does not cause any intoxicating effects.

Is this a full spectrum CBD?

NUBU Hemp Extract CBD Infused Mānuka Honey only contains the cannabinoid CBD (cannabidiol) derived as an isolate compound extracted from hemp. This ensures that our product is 100% THC free and complies with being <0.3% THC. It's important to note that through this isolation process any terpenes once there through the initial extraction process have been removed. Using an isolate also means the honey taste is not impacted by any other contributing compounds that could change the flavor profile.

Our patent pending formulation ensures the benefits of both the Mānuka Honey and hemp extract CBD are preserved for its two year shelf life. Similar products in market may have both the CBD and MGO degrade as they can oxidise one another making the honey no longer functional. What is glyphosate?

Glyphosate is a herbicide used all over the world including in New Zealand. It works to manage a range of different weeds that can interfere with production on farms, in the bush, orchards and gardens. Roundup is the most recognised brand. Can this be used topically on the skin?

Yes! Mānuka Honey is the oldest skincare ingredient on record, and have been included in many skin treatments. Cosmetically it's known as a humectant & has soothing properties. Honey also regulates pH of the skin.
