CBD and Mānuka Honey in Skincare
For years honey has been praised for its use in many natural medicinal care methods. It’s arguably the oldest skincare ingredient, dating back to 4500BC and is still being used today*. Quite notably, the active compound Methylglyoxal (MGO) which is found in very high levels of New Zealand Mānuka Honey is known to be antiseptic, antibacterial and a natural humectant. These properties make it a perfect active to incorporate in any skincare regime, especially those with sensitive skin as it can aid in the skin renewal process and collagen strengthening**.
Our NUBU CBD Infused Mānuka Honey combines the benefits that methylglyoxal and honey bring with the power of cannabidiol (CBD). CBD works with the bodies CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system (ECS). These same receptors are also found in the epidermis and have recently been discovered to maintain skins homeostasis and barrier function. Early studies have shown that CBD provides the skin with many beneficial properties, although research is in its infancy, there are promising results coming from clinical and research studies every week around how beneficial cannabinoids can be when ingested or used topically one study can be reviewed here.
The best way to reap the benefits of such liquid gold is through applying directly to the skin or face, 1-2 times per week – a little goes a long way! Alternatively it’s can be added to your favourite at-home face mask, recipe suggestions can be found here.
Although allergy to honey is uncommon, we always advise talking with a dermatologist if choosing to add CBD or honey to skin.
